Miramar, Florida (February 28, 2008) - Spirit Airlines today announced
the addition of new non-stop service to Columbia, South Carolina, as well as expanded
service to Myrtle Beach with the introduction of new service from Orlando.
New service between Spirit's Fort Lauderdale home and Columbia, South Carolina will
begin on May 22, 2008.
"We are thrilled to bring the first ultra low cost airline service to the Midlands
of South Carolina," said Mark Kopczak, Spirit's Senior Director of Network Planning.
"In addition to non-stop service to our Fort Lauderdale gateway, this new service
will provide the ideal opportunity for travelers to connect to over 20 destinations
in the United States, Caribbean and Latin America."
"Spirit Airlines' announcement of service at Columbia Metropolitan Airport is a
great thing for everyone in the Riverbanks Region and beyond," said Columbia Metropolitan
Airport Executive Director Mike Flack. "Spirit is well known for its dependable
service at very reasonable fares along with a great system of business and leisure
destinations. Our travelers will love this new service and the opportunities it
brings."
In addition, Spirit is adding new service between Orlando and Myrtle Beach, South
Carolina beginning June 12, 2008. This new service complements Spirit's current
service in Myrtle Beach making it the sixth non-stop market for the airline from
Myrtle Beach. This new service will also offer one stop, same-plane service
to Fort Lauderdale, in addition to Spirit's existing non-stop flights between Fort
Lauderdale and Myrtle Beach. "Spirit is proud to offer this new link between
two of America's premier vacation destinations," Kopczak continued.
"The addition of Orlando service and added flight opportunities to Fort Lauderdale
on Spirit Airlines is exciting news for the Myrtle Beach region," said Director
of Airports for Horry County Robert Kemp. "The Myrtle Beach International
Airport is very appreciative of Spirit's growth to new non-stop destinations and
we are confident that its low cost, quality service will be beneficial to both the
Myrtle Beach community and to Spirit Airlines."
Spirit's low fare mascot "Primo" is taking the lead on launching these new flights
by offering his prime number fares as low as $7 each way. Introductory fares*
valid today and tomorrow at www.spiritair.com.
