Health Tips

We recognize that although long distance travel can be quite exciting, it also can be very tiring. Sitting in on position for long periods of time can be uncomfortable for some people. With this in mind, we have compiled a few general tips to help you relax and arrive at your destination refreshed and with little stress and fatigue as possible.

Before Your Trip, here are just a few precautions you can take ahead of time:

  • Make sure your immunizations are current.
  • If possible, delay your trip if you're not feeling well.
  • If you're prone to air sickness, ask for a window seat over the wing.
  • If you have any health questions, or if you suffer from a chronic ailment, motion sickness, or fear of flying, ask for advice from your physician.
  • Stress is bad for you. Reduce stress by allowing plenty of time to check in and reach your departure gate.
  • Always carry your medication with you—never pack it in baggage you're planning to check.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing and shoes for your flight.

General Tips

  • Drink plenty of fluids, preferably water, to avoid dehydration. Avoid too much alcohol.
  • Walk to the restroom and back if you have an opportunity to move around the cabin (provided the Fasten Seat Belt Sign is not illuminated and conditions are safe.)
  • Try to keep your thighs clear of the edge of your seat and elevate your feet the best way possible. Rest your feet on your carry-on luggage (during cruise altitude only) if necessary.

Seated Exercises

Ankle Circles: Raise your feet off the floor and rotate them in a circular motion. Make five circles in clockwise and counterclockwise direction with each foot.

Foot Pumps: With your heels on the floor, raise your toes as far as possible. Hold for a few seconds and lower them to the floor. Then raise your heels while keeping your toes on the floor and hold for several seconds. Repeat five times.

Knee to Chest Stretch: While seated, lean slightly forward and clasp your hands around one knee. Slowly pull your knee toward your chest and hold for 15 seconds. Release and switch to the other leg. Repeat twice.

Shoulder Roll: While seated, keep your arms in place and move your shoulders in a circle from front to back five times. Repeat in the opposite direction.
