Redeeming FREE SPIRITTM Miles
The name FREE SPIRIT was chosen because it exemplifies the true nature of our program
- award travel available to the most popular places in the Americas and the Caribbean. And FREE SPIRIT
was designed to reward all of its members - from the twice a year vacationer, to
the everyday business traveler.
Domestic awards start with as few as 15,000 miles and Caribbean awards start at
20,000 miles. You'll be using miles to fly to some of the most popular places
in the United States, Mexico, Bahamas, and the Caribbean. And all miles count towards
your status, including miles earned through partner programs like the
FREE SPIRIT MasterCard®
Important Changes to FREE SPIRITTM Award Ticket Redemption:
Spirit is currently upgrading our frequent flyer program so we can handle your needs even better in 2008. In doing so, we have temporarily suspended online award ticket redemption. During this time, you will be required to submit your award ticket request via an online form and we will contact you to confirm your travel arrangements.
New online booking request form:
Once you are logged into your FREE SPIRIT profile and have enough miles to book an award ticket, there will be an option for you to select "Redeem Miles for an Award Ticket" which will send an email to our Customer Relations Department. You must submit your initial redemption request at least 7-days prior to your first date of travel, although we recommend submitting your request well before then to ensure availability on the flight.
After you have completed the online form, a representative from our Customer Relations Department will contact you when further information is required. Be sure to enter the correct contact information since our representatives will need to collect a form of payment with associated taxes and fees for your travel. Travel itineraries will not be confirmed solely based upon submission of your request; an agent will contact you to complete the award travel booking, so please plan accordingly.
Information required for redemption requests include:
- Flight information (where would you like to fly from/to)
- Passenger information (how many passengers are traveling)
- Seating preference (Deluxe Leather or Big Front Seat)
- Desired dates of travel
- Contact information (first name, last name, contact telephone and email address)
All award ticket redemption requests must be submitted at least 7-days prior to departure.
Taxes and Fees for Award Travel
FREE SPIRIT members are responsible for paying all applicable taxes and fees (including Customs, Inspection, Immigration, Security, Agriculture, Facility and Departure/Arrival charges, any Administrative fees and the September 11th U.S. Security Fee of up to $10 roundtrip) and obtaining necessary travel documents for award travel. A credit card will be required at time of booking confirmation to pay for any applicable fees and taxes.
Changes to Existing Award Tickets:
If Travel Has Not Yet Commenced:
If you need to make a change to an award ticket where travel has not yet commenced on your flight and are at least 7-days prior to your initial date of departure, you must cancel and re-book your award ticket. You will need to login under "My Reservations" and click on the “Cancel My Reservation” button. This will send us your change request and we will contact you to modify your booking. A $70 mileage re-deposit fee will be assessed for modifying an un-flown award ticket itinerary and you must book the new ticket based on the current applicable award levels.
If Travel Has Commenced:
You are able to make modifications to the return portion of your travel itinerary for a $70 modification fee when submitted at least 7-days prior to your date of departure. You will need to login under "My Reservations" and click on the "Modify" button next to the applicable flight segment you wish to modify. This will send us your change request and we will contact you to modify your booking. There are no changes permitted within 7-days of departure.
Canceling Existing Award Tickets:
If you're canceling your award ticket, follow the same process outlined above, select "Cancel My Reservation" and a reservations specialist will contact you to help complete your request. There will be a $70 mileage redeposit fee assessed for canceling an award ticket when done at least 7-days in advance of the first flight segment. Cancellations will not be permitted within 7-days of the initial date of departure.
Award tickets are still subject to the same rules governing the FREE SPRIT program.

FREE SPIRIT Awards
There are two types of travel awards: the "Early Bird" award offers discounted mileage
awards when travel is booked more than 21 days in advance and the FREE SPIRIT Award
which is available anytime.
