Miramar, Florida (January 15, 2010) – Spirit Airlines today pledged to provide up to $10 million USD¹ to Yéle for relief efforts in Haiti.
“We commend Wyclef Jean and the humanitarian programs that Yéle has achieved since its founding, including their efforts during this terrible tragedy,” says Spirit Airlines CEO and President Ben Baldanza. “We stand ready to assist in bringing the sustainable relief so desperately needed to Haiti, including providing up to $10 million USD to Yéle.”
Spirit will give $75 USD to Yéle for every qualified person who applies for and uses a FREE SPIRIT™ MasterCard, up to $10 million USD.¹ Simply visit www.spiritair.com/yele for complete details.
Customers simply open an account by Monday, January 25, 2010, use it once by March 31, 2010, and Spirit gives $75 USD to Yéle.
“It’s a win-win for everyone,” adds Baldanza. “We are providing up to $10 million USD to Yéle, our customers receive up to three free flights, and since we’ve waived the annual fee for the first year, the only cost to help us reach our goal of raising $10 million USD is using the card for one of your everyday purchases to activate the card.”
As announced earlier this week, Spirit is also giving 5,000 FREE Spirit miles to everyone who donates at least $5 to Yéle Haiti, the Red Cross or UNICEF, enough miles for a free flight*. The ultra low cost carrier will give up to a billion miles. Those interested in joining Spirit Airlines in their fundraising relief efforts for Haiti should visit www.spiritair.com/haiti after making at least a $5 donation to one of the following organizations:
· Yéle Haiti (www.yele.org)
· Red Cross (www.redcross.org)
· UNICEF (www.unicef.org)
Since Spirit Airlines started flying to Haiti in 2007, it has lowered fares over 40 percent, saving Haitians over $10 million.**
Current status on Spirit’s service to Port-au-Prince, Haiti:
